Interpretation of "Intelligent Connected Vehicle Technology Roadmap 2.0"

The 2020 World Intelligent Connected Vehicle Conference held on November 11 released the "Intelligent Connected Vehicle Technology Roadmap 2.0", which follows the "New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035)" "Energy-saving and New Energy Vehicle Technology Roadmap" After Figure 2.0, there is another top-level design document that sets the technical route for the next 15 years. "Roadmap 2.0" defines the development route, vision and strategic goals of intelligent connected vehicles. Among them, it is proposed that by 2035, China's smart networked vehicle technology and industrial system will be fully completed, the industrial ecology will be sound and perfect, the level of intelligence of the entire vehicle will be significantly improved, and the large-scale application of networked highly autonomous intelligent networked vehicles will be implemented. Interpretation:

Background: my country's current top-level design documents for intelligent connected vehicles are the "Smart Vehicle Innovation Development Strategy" released in February this year and the "New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan 2021-2035" just announced. Countries around the world are actively deploying intelligent connected vehicles at the top level, and many countries and regions have already defined the development goals of the intelligent connected vehicle industry. For example, the United States has accelerated demonstration applications such as Robotaxis, logistics and distribution through the autonomous vehicle planning (AV1.0-4.0) and intelligent transportation strategy; Europe mainly deploys the collaborative intelligent transportation system C-ITS to realize the Internet of Vehicles.

Development goals: In terms of top-level design, it is divided into three stages: development, promotion, and maturity. Through policies, regulations, technical standards, etc., it will be improved and deeply integrated with smart transportation and smart cities. In terms of the market, L2 and L3 autonomous driving will account for 50% of new car sales in 2025 and 70% in 2030. The L4 level of autonomous driving will be commercialized in specific scenarios and restricted areas such as "highways, dedicated lanes, parking lots, parks, ports, and mining areas" in 2025. In 2030, new vehicles will account for 20% and will be widely used on expressways. Realize large-scale applications on urban roads. After 2035, L5 unmanned passenger cars will be applied. In terms of technical capabilities, we will have 1-2 of the world's top ten suppliers in 2025, and Chinese brands will achieve large-scale exports in 2030.

"Three horizontal and two vertical" layout: The technical architecture and key technologies of intelligent connected vehicles form a "three horizontal and two vertical" layout. The three horizontal lines refer to “key vehicle technologies”, “key information interaction technologies” and “key basic support technologies”, and the two vertical lines refer to “vehicle platforms” and “infrastructures” that support the development of intelligent networked vehicles. Infrastructure, including transportation facilities, communication networks, big data platforms, positioning base stations, etc., will gradually be upgraded to digital, intelligent, networked and software-based to support the development of intelligent networked vehicles.

Development by type: The vehicle is divided into passenger vehicles, freight vehicles, and passenger vehicles. The research is conducted in four scenarios: urban roads, suburban roads, expressways, and specific four scenarios, and phase development goals and milestones are formulated.

For passenger cars, L3 will be applied on a large scale in 2025 and L4 will enter the market; by 2030, L4 will be applied on a large scale, including suburban roads, expressways, and urban roads covering major cities across the country; in 2035, L5 will begin to be applied.

For freight vehicles, in 2025, high-speed scenes L1 and L2 will be applied on a large scale, and L3 will enter the market; in 2030, L4 will be commercialized on urban roads; and in 2035, L5 will be applied.

For passenger vehicles, L3 BRT and L4 shuttle buses will be commercialized in 2025; in 2030, L4 shuttle buses will be used in large scale, L4 BRT commercial applications, and L4 city buses will enter the market; in 2035, Large-scale application of L4 city buses and commercial application of L4 expressway buses.
